Valdi's and Reinactment
Valdi's
Valdi's is a Viking age woman from Birka (a large trading center near present day Stockholm), who lived in approximately 950 C.E. Her father was a raider - I mean, trader, who traveled a lot in the east - through (modern day) Russia and down into Byzanteum and the near east. He brought back all sorts of goodies, including textiles and slaves who taught Valdi's knitting and a few other eastern arts. When Valdi's came of age, she travelled to Kyrbyr, and stayed.
A note on the "spelling" of Valdi's - the name Valdi's is properly spelled with an accented I. The apostrophe is to show the accent without throwing up squirelly characters on people's browsers.
Reinactment
"Reliving the middle ages as they should have been."
A quote someone said to me when I was first discovering reinactment, and it stuck. There are many groups who cover a wide range of times and places, some very specific - there are Iron Age Celtic groups, and Viking groups. Some groups are very strict about costuming and keeping everything as period as possible, others are more lenient. My favorite is the 10 foot rule - if it looks good from 10 feet away, it's good!
